I got home today from vacation in Nagasaki. Wow, what a great city. I recommend anyone coming to Japan to check it out.
This site was recently nominated as 'Photoblog of the Week over at Digital Photography School. Thanks for the opportunity Darren, and thanks to everyone from over there who took the time to come take a look at the site.
This is the 'Altar of Fallen Soldiers' at Fukusai-ji temple in Nagasaki. From the pamphlet:
'A big trench helmet is a tombstone for the repose of the souls of the fallen soldiers. It is made of iron from the sunken warship "Mutsu".
Under the trench helmet are buried the remains of 16,500 soldiers with lots of their belongings, collected at the battlefields in Burma, the Phillipines or solitary islands in the South Seas.'
